"I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Shimoda Tokyu Hotel. I stayed one night in a double room with view over the ocean for a discount of more than 70% so it was cheap for this kind of service. The room was comfortable with great products in the bathroom, comfy robe, towels and bed linen, as well as free hot drinks and water bottles. The best part were probably the breakfast and the onsen with view over the ocean. What a dream! For extra fees, you can book massages and other beauty service. The lady who was there could speak English and really tailored the massage to my needs, which I really appreciated. Reception staff generally speaks (excellent) English but not everybody. I only wish I had knew that the hotel had a shuttle bus from / to the station as I walked to reach the hotel. It was a lovely walk but a very steep one, upon hills. I would definitely go back to Shimoda Tokyu Hotel if I can get the same deal."

"We hoped to avoid tourist traps, crowds and noise for a while, and had a perfect few days that way at the Gardenview. Shimoda is a quiet city, populated mostly by locals and visitors from Tokyo et al. The Gardenview fits perfectly, with European breakfast, plenty of lounge and deck space even if it were full, secluded baths that can be reserved, and unmanicured land stretching down to the ocean. It's a bit bed-and-breakfasty for anyone who prefers a youth hostel or a big commercial hotel. It was nice to talk to the owners about the history of Shimoda and how we could see as much as possible hiking and walking from one place to another. I'd just hope for heavy duty bathroom fixtures and a couple of bikes available for rent if we're lucky enough to find ourselves in Shimoda again."

"Start from Shuttle bus. Driver friendly and helpful. Check in process. Well prepared for our arrival. Rather than stand at counter, we completed the whole process by sitting at desk with a very kindly speaking staff. Staff took us to our room, checked and changed the pajama size for my little one while explaining all hotel facilities. Dinner is a highlight. What a feast! You definitely don't want to miss out. A set meal plus choices of hot dishes and desserts. Onsen, pretty much same as other onsen hotels. The room is cosy. The view from the room is fantastic. Tatami nice and comfortable, air-conditioning is adjustable. Breakfast variety wise is reasonable. A shop between two restaurants sells quite many stuff, prices are the same as outside. Check out process is very efficient. When we sat on the shuttle bus, a staff helped us put luggage in the bus then ran back into the hotel, surprisly gave my girl a small handmade souvenir. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel "
