Where to stay in Shimoda
Shimoda hotels & accommodations
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Shimoda Tokyu Hotel. I stayed one night in a double room with view over the ocean for a discount of more than 70% so it was cheap for this kind of service. The room was comfortable with great products in the bathroom, comfy robe, towels and bed linen, as well as free hot drinks and water bottles. The best part were probably the breakfas...
Excellent location, right on the beach. Draw your curtains in the morning and you can see beautiful sunshine shining on a great looking stretch of sand. Excellent staff very helpful, especially the Australia educated lady at the front desk with excellent English. Goods Japanese options at the hotel and few pice pizza placed within a short walk from the hotel
Rather remote but if Shimoda is one your itinerary, driving to here for one night is very special experience. Book Room Type C for private onsen and the cozy, calm and original atmosphere is refreshing.
Start from Shuttle bus. Driver friendly and helpful. Check in process. Well prepared for our arrival. Rather than stand at counter, we completed the whole process by sitting at desk with a very kindly speaking staff. Staff took us to our room, checked and changed the pajama size for my little one while explaining all hotel facilities. Dinner is a highlight. What...
The location is a little away from the train station, but the town of Shimoda isn't too big anyway. The hotel facilities are great! My room had a beautiful view of the beach and an outdoor bathtub with onsen water. The public onsen, especially the outdoor one that's on top of a trail walk, was also just wonderful! The staffs didn't speak too much English but they offer...
We hoped to avoid tourist traps, crowds and noise for a while, and had a perfect few days that way at the Gardenview. Shimoda is a quiet city, populated mostly by locals and visitors from Tokyo et al. The Gardenview fits perfectly, with European breakfast, plenty of lounge and deck space even if it were full, secluded baths that can be reserved, and unmanicured land st...
The hotel’s location is picturesque, but a little inconvenient. However, a free shuttle bus service is available. Rooms are basic, and lack WiFi or a strong data signal. The onsen is a nice touch, though.
It’s a nice and pleasant stay, around 8 mins walking time to the shimoda train station, we’ve booked a room with sea view, and it’s quiet and comfy place to stay
One has to access this Ryokan by car as it is set in a neighborhood recessed deep in the residential valley above Shimoda. The Ryokan looks wonderful and traditional, then involves walking thru a tunnel path to the rooms. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and dining was provided in a room next door with a wonderful seafood spread (and surprisingly affordable!). ...
The owner, Mr Yamamoto, was vey helpful and answered our questions about Shimoda. The Italian restaurant that's about 100yards is called Restaurant Patata served really good food. Down the street is the Shirahama Beach, and there's also 7-11 and Family Mart close by. Really great location.
I have mixed feelings about the booking. It's not a room, you book a whole house!! While booking, the price for 2 person is 7800 yen, at the place I was told the price is 7800 yen per person + 1000 cleaning fee (per person?). I refused to pay it, and just paid 9000 yen (7800 + 1000, didn't get 200yen change, just saying). 7800 yen per person may be a fair price, but i...
Take the bus from Shimoda station to the Shirahama Shrine stop; walk 3 or 4 min to this lovely spot. You'll be pleased with beach access and en-suite bathroom. We'll stay here again come summer time!
Our experience in the Hareya ryokan was 100% positive: it is in front of a very nice/clean beach (20 meters), the room is traditional (tatami floor and japanese bed), very big and equipped with personal toilet and tap. The common bathroom is very clean and comfortable, with the traditional bath of warm water to get relaxed. We had lunch in the ryokan and was traditiona...
When we arrived, we were told that the hotel was closed, and indeed, it appeared so.... dimly lit, aging, and pet bunnies (???) hanging out in the lobby. We presented our reservations, and apparently we and our friends were the only guests that weekend so it was really rather creepy. The Japanese rooms were clean and decent for the price, but beware! this hotel does ...
The bus stop is right next to it. It"s directly across from the beach. It's an amazing place to stay and the food in the cafe is great too. Loved this place, and would highly recommend to anyone who wants to go to Shimoda.
This place was awesome!
