After staying for two nights at the Shimokita Mustard Hotel, I moved my accommodation to Shibuya. I felt that it was quite far from Shibuya Station, and it was so crowded that I got tired on the way there. However, for travelers who prefer the vibe of Yoyogi over Shibuya, this is the best hotel. Personally, I didn't like the area around Shibuya, so I hardly went there except when heading to the airport. The Yoyogi Koen Station and the Yoyogi Uehara area were very close, making it a nice place to spend time. Excellent restaurants like Koshitan Tan, Menkiyashima, and other great izakayas are very nearby, and it's also a good location to visit hip cafes like Puglen and Camelback while taking a morning walk. If you're tired of the chain stores in Shibuya, you'll really like this location. There’s a large Lawson convenience store and an Aeon Mall nearby, especially the Aeon Mall, which offers a wide range of products at affordable prices. The hotel itself is also comfortable. They provide disposable slippers once, and they change a large amount of towels and amenities daily. They offer bottled water and tea, and clean the rooms every day. I was quite dissatisfied with the cleanliness of my previous accommodation at Mustard, so I really appreciated this aspect. The dimmable lights and sound devices at the head of the bed were useful. Lowering the curtains allows for complete blackout, so I could sleep well. Above all, the cleanliness of the hotel ensured that the indoor air was very fresh and comfortable to breathe. I was able to store my luggage both before and after check-in, allowing for a smooth continuation of my travel schedule. Especially on the last day of my trip, after checking out, I could comfortably have a meal and shop for gifts after leaving my luggage. Also, all the staff were extremely friendly. A few downsides include that the hotel overall feels a bit old, but it is well maintained, so I never faced any discomfort or unpleasant situations during my stay. There were plenty of power outlets, but they seemed to have low voltage, which made using a multi-plug inconvenient. Having several adapters for Japan wouldn't be a problem. Since you have to leave your room key at the front desk every time you go out, it can be a little inconvenient if you go in and out frequently. If I need to book a hotel in the Shibuya area again in the future, I will definitely use this one again.
I don't know how old it is, but it has a vintage feel to it. The staff are very kind, and it's about a 10-minute walk from Shibuya Station. Shibuya itself is busy and noisy, but this place is a bit removed from that, which is nice and a bit quiet. There's a convenience store right in front, and a curry place just 30 seconds away, which is great. The cleaning is also done neatly. One drawback is that you can't open the windows. One of the guests smokes in the hallway, and the smoke came into the room. The next morning I woke up with a sore throat. I was contemplating whether to mention it to the front desk. It would be good to have more no-smoking signs displayed. It would have been nice if you could just open the windows.

Unfortunately I will be unlikely to come here again, despite me being otherwise impressed by the room, friendly staff and Japanese breakfast. The reason is - this hotel has a policy that all guests have to hand in their key everytime they leave the hotel building. Guests are told this when they check in and a sign on the lift states it in multiple languages. As this is strange compared to most other hotels I have been to, I queried this and the response I got was... this is so the room could be cleaned and to avoid keys getting lost. Maybe this is okay for some travellers but for me that is not good enough - and does not treat guests like adults. Surely they have a copy of the key, and reasonable people would expect that if a guest loses a key they will need to pay for its replacement. It's a pity, because I think my review would be completely positive if they didn't push those policy on their guests.
This was my first trip to Tokyo with my 5 and 7-year-old children. Since there was not much need to move around the next day, I looked for a hotel close to the station in Shibuya so that we could do everything during our stay, and I ended up staying here because the reviews were good. As a result, the staff were very kind, and I was really glad to have stayed here! They kindly lent us three umbrellas when it rained, came outside to explain directions clearly when we said we didn't know the way, and immediately looked up the weather when we asked... Even when I inquired about things that could easily be found on a smartphone nowadays, they taught me with great politeness and kindness, which I really appreciated. The room was clean, and there was nothing to be bothered about; I had a very comfortable stay. The children also seemed to have a lot of fun in the beautiful hotel and were very happy. If I ever have the opportunity to go nearby again, I would like to stay here. Thank you very much for this time! ♪

We only spent one night here before leaving for Kyoto the next day but the room was clean and spacious enough to move around freely. Staff was attentive and the location convenient, although we did walk a bit to get to and from Shibuya station. I adored the fact the hotel was nestled in between buildings in a quiet area away from the Scramble Crossing. It was very quaint. Highly recommend.
