Traveler impressions of Izu
Nice place - atami has more shopping than ito itself though. Would be nice if Buses were more frequent
Although there are not too much sightseeing points in Atami, taking a cable car up the hill to the Atami Castle to view the city and bay from a high point is still a good choice.
every peaceful small town, the good way to know the Japan culture. no much tourists. and tasting food
Nice place with a lot of sightseeing.. We are not manage to go all places as we only stayed for 2 nights.
It was a lovely area, with some very lovely sights. Some of the views along the coast are just incredible.
Very nice natural scene everywhere. If you like driving, try not to 100% follow your GPS sometimes. GPS usually shows the shortest way to your destination but skip some beautiful scene.
You could spend all day at the beach, whose facilities have just been upgraded, but you would be missing out on many things such as nature walks, exciting castles perched high above the sea, spas, birds wildlife, fishing and excursions on fast hydroplanes to mist shrouded islands.
Nice beaches, but they are far from restaurants, etc. There are interesting parts of town (Perry Way), but overall the town feels dead with few interesting shops.
There are great beaches in this area e.g Shirahama beach. It's best to visit in spring, as it gets very crowded in summer.
You can find good beach and restaurant and Musium. However you need car to move around. Otherwise you have to take taxi a lot.
Izu is the perfect way out of Tokyo for a week end. I went there by car with my wife and 9 months old son, except for the traffic on the coastline road everything was perfect, so I recommend to take the skyline road through central izu, it is much easier.
