Deceiving description and pictures
My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay in Jaco for 4 night and we got lucky with the weather. Jaco Laguna Resort was only satisfactory compared to our hotel in Manuel Antonio. I thought that the JLR was okay, nothing great, nothing terrible. PROS: - SUNSET, SUNSET, SUNSET. Did I mention the SUNSET. - Location on south end of Jaco's beach with calmer waters and nice sof...
Unit was full of aunts. They were on the chairs, and bit us when we unknowingly sat down on the chairs. Worst was waking up with bed bug bites all over body.
Two backpackers looking to save as much money as possible but also stay in nice places. This spot was incredible! We spent the mornings on the beach (which you look out on from your window) and our evenings sitting on our porch or on the hammocks. Staff was excellent. Noise from the bar next door can be heard, but didn't bother us because our fan was blasting at all...
I really enjoyed staying here and hearing the howler monkeys :D The staff was very pleasant and friendly. A little pricey for a solo traveller, but for 2 people it would be more worth your money for sure :D Leslie at the front desk was extremely helpful and was able to answer any of my travelling needs! Two thumbs up for sure !!!
No complaints during our stay. The first room we got had a slight smell but we were switched to a new one right away. The pool is nice, the beach and lots of restaurants are a short walk away. The staff were super friendly. No fridges in the rooms but had access to the kitchen.
We had a great stay at Rainbow Valley Lodge. We had an amazing view, very clean room, and complete kitchen. The owner is very hands on and really takes time to take care of the guests. All our tours and transfer reservations are done by him. We had an issue with a faucet leak, but was easily taken care of. The location is not in downtown but is just 15min walk. ...
We stayed in hostel plinio for 2 nights to visit Manuel Antonio national park. The pool and communal areas were nice and it was handy having a kitchen. Breakfast was very good and the staff were helpful! However we think that it is a quite overpriced hostel for what you get as it is fairly basic yet costs similar to more luxury accommodations. Also we would suggest pay...
A litle bit old and expensive. But very good located in front of beach, near of restaurants, Bank, supermarket. Have a good Kitchen inside room. No breakfast.
Brand new Bali style accommodations steps away from my favourite beach. The owner and manager couldn’t do enough for us. Tastefully designed room with a large bed and full kitchen. The bathroom opens up to the sky with plants. In it. There’s a pagoda next to the pool for yoga, tai chi etc. Very quiet tranquil place. Will definitely be back. Thanks for a great sta...
GO HERE!
Perfect spot to get away but still be close enough to some fun. The manager was so helpful in arranging anything I wanted to do. The place was well maintained and clean, a little too big for just myself, but I enjoyed solo pool time and relaxing in the many hammocks on the property.
Esteban and the cleaning woman were both very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was plentiful and began at 6:30 for those wanting to hike early. The room was small but certainly adequate.
All the staff was really kind, friendly and helpful. I also appreciated the 'quiet' policy after 10 - I was traveling solo and meeting new people is always great (which I did here) but also a really light sleeper and can't do dorm rooms. Wide Mouth provided the best of both worlds! Great stay.
We were secretly concerned about noise levels because it was a courtyard style hostel. Nope, exactly as the rules stated, 10pm-quiet time.
The hotel was okay. Very friendly staff, and nice restaurant/bar. Very thin walls, you can hear everything going on outside at the pool and the loud TV at the restaurant early in the morning.
The hotel was a ghost town, hard to find staff when problem with door arose. Beds were like sleeping on rocks, and the sheets were old and not soft with stains. Room pictures make it seem nicer than it is. No hot water. Air conditioning did not cool down room. Staff did not speak English. Decor was old and out dated. Overall would not recommend for anyone.
Great location, shaded and cool. Nice buildings and nice people.
What a wonderful stay we had here! Words cannot describe how beautiful this place is. The view is amazing! We saw a lot of tucans from outside our room. The room is amazing, clean and very spacious. The bed is probably the best bed we slept on our intire trip. It is so special to wake up in the middle of the jungle with all the jungle noises. Last but not least Michell...
We stayed at Hostel Cattleya for 2 nights and it was great. Jonathan was very helpful and provided loads of suggestions of things to do and a very detailed map of the area. He helped us book our tours and onward transport too. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. The kitchen has recently been renovated and it is amazing! I would definitely recommend that you s...
We were very happy with our 2 night stay at this basic but very clean hotel. Please note that they only accept cash payment for the stay no credit cards accepted.
Amy and Ken were awesome! Really everything you could want out of a nights stay
Lena and Diego were amazingly helpful with things to do and booking tours / transport. It is a quiet yet very friendly place with a mix of families, couples, friends and solo backpackers. Lots of restaurants in walking distance and a good breakfast included. The showers are hot and beds comfortable. There is a nice garden to sit in after a day hiking.
Pros. Great location walking distance to supermarket, restaurants in town, restaurant inside hotel, coffee, hammocks, pool table. Kitchen. We stayed in one of the two bungalows. I appreciate that they shut the lights and music off at 9:30pm. Cons. Hot water in women’s shower only(why?) one of the two beds in our bungalow the mosquito net which was needed was way to sh...
This is not a 4+ star hotel, and I'm very surprised at the ratings overall. The hotel is located at the south end of Jaco, which is more quiet than being in town, at the expense of requiring a taxi to go back and forth for restaurants, etc. The hotel is dated and feels it. It is right on the beach, and the pool is ok (not great, not bad). The staff are very helpful...
Just what we needed - a quiet clean small hotel with a beautiful pool and very friendly staff Although the town is a little on the rough side you are 15mins walk out of it and it meant the location was extremely quiet. They were very good at organising the excursions we needed as well as pickup taxis to and from San Jose airport The only changes I would like to see ...
We stayed one night and liked it very much. A little bit further from the beach that I expected, but bus stop right in front of the hotel (or cab is $4 if you catch one going down) and if you are planning to spend time in Quepos - its will suit you perfect. Very cozy. Pool is actually bigger than in pictures. A bit renovations going next door, but overall was nice and ...
Nice large room but walls were thin - you can clearly hear you neighbours. Smell of sewage in bathroom was really strong. Breakfast was average - hot food was actually cold. Staff particularly unfriendly, especially in restaurant. I'd recommend eating out where possible.
The room is very clean. Good service and the staff are very nice, must book here next time.

Good to Meet local people and Friendly personal
Me and my fiancé had a great stay at the Tico Lindo Hotel. Nice air-con room and a great pool to cool of in :) The breakfast was super and the staff were really friendly and was always there to help.
My complaints are: Kitchen fumes/smell in my room every morning.. bad advice/help about transfer out from monteverde.. i relied on them to get me a shuttle to san jose, and wound up having to take the bus because their shuttle needed more than 1 person to run, whereas i could have gone with interbus... but they were fully booked once i found out Sloth couldn't delive...
The room we received did not look like the one in the picture. It was acceptable but not very nice. It was ok, but just a bit disappointing.
We spent there 3 nights during Christmas - very busy time. The guy on the reception answered all our question and booked all the activities before we arrived to make sure that we got places during busy time. The room is clean, hor watter. Very close to the time. Kitchnen with all the equipment and drinking watter. Games 😀

A bit of a walk from town but unless you need to use the atm, there’s an amazing Soda across the road. Everyone in the hostel ended up extending their stays (even sharing double beds with strangers). Definitely the best choice in town

Beautiful hostel surrounded by nature. Location is perfect if you have a car. If not, then you will have to walk 2km from the bus stop, with part of the path going really up, especially if you carry a backpack! Breakfast for 7USD is also worth it. Would definitely have stayed if it had been more central

Stayed over ten nights at this super-clean, brand new hostel in a private room (one with the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the pool/water slide). Fantastic sunset views from the room or hammocks on the top floor. Perfect location for learning to surf, as the beach break is friendly and there's an assortment of boards to be rented for $10/day. Cheerful young s...
Beautiful backyard and comfortable room. Near the beach.

The location is very Nice. Close to the beach and city center and surrounded by a jungle with a lot of friendly wild animals (monkeys, iguana, racoon, coati..). The staff is very nice and the kitchen well equiped
Place; pros and cons. 10min walk to the main forests ( curi cancha & children's eternal forest) so you don't have to pay extra for the transportation to join the forest tour but 3km away from Santa Elena town where you can find shops, supermarket, restaurantes and the only bus terminal. Taxi cost is about 3$. The slope from the main road to the house is very steep....
The host is super friendly, super helpful, and greets you with a great smile. Place is clean, breakfast (included) is delicious, and the location is 2 min walk from downtown Santa Elena. Loved it.
Very quiet.
Great value
This place was very nice for many reason. It’s 5 min walk from Marino Ballena wich is free after 16h to watch the fantastic sunset! The place was clean, and the owner was a very nice host. Of course its easier to have a car to move around but there is a bus station 5 min walk from the room.
This place was unexpectedly delightful! We knew it was central but were amazed when taken to our room which had a balcony with a hammock with a spectacular view of the bay. Erick was incredibly helpful even for months before we arrived in trying to help us organise transport. Location is excellent with restautants, supermarket etc a short couple of minutes walk away (a...
Very clean, spacious rooms with well stocked kitchen. Great shower. Aircon worked well which you want in quepos. Its only a 5-10 minute walk from the bus station and a few minutes to a brilliant supermarket (mini price). I highly recommend!
an excellent host. With mountain bikes, kayaks, surfboard and snorkling gear all included it was the best value in Costa Rica. There are many places to choose from but Jim has put together a package that has the most value. The wildlife is at the property and just a short bike ride away at Costa Rica's oldest National Park. Local restaurants and amenities are walking...
The receptionist was always frowning, none of the staff spoke English , expect to pay extra for everything (hot water, AC, balcony, second floor, larger fridge!) I'd recommend staying at other hotels.
I was greeted and was anxious to go on a tour as soon as I arrived. They helped call and I was able to get a tour booked immediately. I was even helped on booking a tour for the next day. They even called and confirmed pick up times for me too. After, I was shown my room which was very clean and cozy. The staff was a family and they all were so nice and...
The hotel room was big and we love it. The owner was super friendly and his lovely little daughter gave us a very warm welcome. The restaurant in front of the hotel served very delicious food and the location is great.

Have no complaints. The internet worked well, the staff was friendly, the view was terrific and so was the location on a hill high above the ocean
Under our expectation! The breakfast and dinner bad quality!
Pro: location. A few steps from the entrance of Manuel Antonio park or the beach. Cons: expensive. Lots of staff working but not run well. Under construction. Looks like it still needs more work. Chipped paint and cracks in walls. Bugs in our room. Room wasn't ready when we arrived.
This was a lovely family run place. However, I went here on my own without a car and it's not easy to get in/out of town. I would definitely recommend this place to ppl with cars, ppl who want to cook their own meals, and families. Very nice place.
This place was a ways from the small town but it was nice to be away, very relaxing. The hotel sits up high and has a great view of the ocean. The manager was very nice and very attentive. It was a nice place to unwind and relax.
We loved the accommodation at Casa Frangipani, could have very happily stayed there for a few months and was sad to leave. From what we had read when booking the accommodation we don't think we fully took on board all that the accommodation had to offer and was consequently really very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Whether breakfasting or relaxing on the decke...
Great staff, the guys in the reception are super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, for the size of the hotel ( not too big), the usual, fruits, Gallo pinto, cereal. Rooms where clean however it wouldn’t hurt some maintenance, specially in the bathrooms stained with hard water. Location is great, close to the beach, supermarket, restaurants and bus stop.
We arrived late in the evening and left at mid-day the next day so were unable to check out lunch or dinner. However good for the national park as we very close to the entrance. The room was spacious had good wi-fi and tv. Only minor problem was not much parking in the grounds but we were able to park in the grounds. If we go back to that area we would definitely use...
Ok, but I had a downstairs room next to the pool. People using the pool were noisy, partied til late and were insensitive to other guests. Lighting was also poor with severalbulbs needing to be replace. AC was also noisy.
We needed a place to stay so we could catch the ferry the next day. Overall appearance was amazing. Staff was OK and rooms were super nice and modern. PROBLEM-The shower drain was flat so water drained into bathroom and room. Also, DJ by the pool was loud during the day. Puntarenas is a good place to pass through only.
The décor is amazing, unique and beautiful throughout, including unique natural fiber wall paper, decorative rock walls, tile work on floors, stairs and in pool area. Infinity pool was excellent infinity pool with excellent sunsets & fun visitors (toucans, porcupines, monkeys & more). Bar had a nice 2 for 1 happy hour with tasty pina coladas and other drinks. Rooms are...
2 stars. The only positive thing: great view/location. Bottom line. Reason for 2 stars: No animal friendly environment. There is a puppy that they have allowed to come in and out apparently she comes to visit the owner’s puppy. The puppy -visitor Lala is so friendly but for some reason they don’t allow her to interact with the guests. That is fine. However , I was so...
The owners were lovely, very accommodating. The Room I was in was apparently the small room but it was very big in my opinion, and the bed was massive plus each room has their own hammock. The shower pressure was a bit fickle but everything else was spot on, they use environmental friendly shampoos and soaps, they have a state of the art water filter which makes the ...
Good location and really friendly staff!!
Amazing hosts and very nice environment. Can only recommend it. Rent a suv /4x4 as the last 15 mins to get there from the main road is not paved. (Which seems to be normal in Costa Rica but since it was our first time we didnt know). You can go there with a regular sedan but it will be bumpy.
360 boutique hotel is a nice designed hotel in the hills. Restaurant is very good, so you don't need to go down the hill for dinner. Breakfast is fine. Pool and view to the pacific are great.
Paul and Fred were excellent hosts and were very helpful throughout our stay. Their apartments provide an amazing view of the Valle Pura Vida. The facilities are excellent and well maintained- although there is a shared pool we were always able to have private time here. I would strongly recommend La Maison Blanche as a base for holidays in the south-west of Costa Rica...
