Guanacaste Province hotels & places to stay

Westin playa conchal Stay from 1/9-1/14 Room overrun by ants - asked them to spray but that didn't do anything. Ants were all over the sink and the wall. Tried to use our own spray which helped some but ants were back all over by the end of the week Got food poisoning on the first night that landed me in my room the whole next day. Didn't give us the Costa Rica resident rate even though we told them we were residents. It was $750 discount. Generally believe we were over charged but hope to hear from the hotel next Tuesday. Kids didn't get the things that were supposed to be included in the family suite like the kids bathrobes and slippers and kid amenity pack. Pizza lunch by the pool took 1 hour on Friday

Everything was excellent, except for the fact that we had phoned a day ahead to ask if we could leave some of our luggage at the hotel for 2 nights before our stay while we headed up to the volcanoes and were told that it definitely would not be a problem. Upon arriving we were told that was not true and that we would not be able to leave the luggage there. We did end up agreeing for us to leave a bit there. I believe the hotel should have upheld it’s original commitment.

I absolutely loved everything about this hotel. From the dedicated and outrageously helpful staff, to the fantastic little cottage with a massive clean bathroom with loads of space to put your toiletries.. the hot water was HOT and the pressure excellent. They proved a hair drier which was so helpful. I loved my room, two double beds and a good sized fridge and plenty of space to hang clothes and shelves so you could really feel at home. Having the pool and kitchen was great, and the space outside was comfortable. It felt so safe and as a single woman so protected. They have 3 lovely cats that are supper friendly and this just ads to the homely feeling of the place. I will stay here again

We are huge fans of AM resorts (Dreams, Secrets, etc.) and Costa Rica. This is our 3rd visit to this beautiful country and its kind sweet people. . Imagine our disappointment... This resorts is incredibly mismanaged. The workers in their majority look unhappy which probably explains the poor quality of service we received. The food and liquor are below the company standard which we experienced in many visits in Mexico and Dominican Republic. Some of which include: - Poor service at the Worlds Cafe - Many family and others as well finished breakfast without getting our coffee. Some people just got up and left. - Closed restaurants without prior notice. We had reservations due to our large family group only to find out upon our arrival that management had decided to close 2 restaurants last minute for the evening. We received no call to warn us or gives up alternatives prior to us showing up which added a wait time of 1 1/2 hours. - Limited water sports equipmt. - Poor house keeping.

We were staying in hotel for 4 nights and it was great. It is located a little bit out of town but you can go 15 minutes to the beach Samara or rent a bike and you have few minutes to the beach. Room is big and comfortable with great hot shower. Staff is friendly and on every step you can get their help. Samara is beautiful so I recommend everybody to stay here. The beach is amazing with little tides on morning so you can swimm normally or learn surfing.

If you're staying a night in Liberia to rest up from your travel day... it's perfect. they pick you up from the airport and the son was waiting for me at the outside gate. the family is very pleasant, the rooms very clean and had all the things you need for a night... a/c, fan, cable, hot showers... and the villa is only 1km from the central park area. they even have a coffee/breakfast spread for you in the morning and can book tours for you in the morning. i will definately be staying here when i fly back to canada

Rooms are small but had everything I needed. Completely updated and clean. Worth more than the price. I stayed in other hotels across the area that were way more expensive but were awful dirty places. Staff was great. I didn’t eat there but the lil garden cafe is adorable and the menu looks great. My only complaint is that they were doing construction that started at 7am! The construction staff was very loud and didn’t care that people were trying to sleep. They yelled and whistled and had no regards for guests. Other than that a great lil gem.

We had a 3 night stay at Belcruz. This is a lovely family-run B&B. The location is quiet and about 10 minute drive from the main town but this was no problem for us. Our room had a beautiful view and wifi. The shower was lukewarm with the pressure turned up but beautifully hot when turned down a little. The breakfasts were great - homemade granola and the best pineapple and papaya jam - I would have bought several jars to take home with me if it was for sale! Randal went through all of the activities/excursions on offer and helped us book the ones we wanted. This B&B is fantastic value for money and we would not hesitate to recommend them.

The guesthouse was clean, comfortable, chill & fun. By far the best thing about Pura Visa Mini Hostel are the staff, extremely knowledgeable about the country, accommodating, kind, helpful, friendly & fun. The dorms were clean & comfortable & the main social deck area is set up with beanbags & rocking chairs to sit or snooze in. Its close to the beach and with in short walking distance to the rest of Tamarindo making it convenient but still quiet enough to get a decent sleep. There's wildlife around too. U can spot monkey's & iguanas around including the resident iguana Fred (he's huge).

I was looking to relax after a very demanding year and Pasatiempo really delivered. The staff is attentive, very friendly and fast if you have any issues. My room was clean and in a good condition. The hotel gardens and the small but well kept swimming pool are great to relax in the sun. The hotel offers booking for a variety of trips, mainly in and around Tamarindo but to San Jose or Nicaragua as well. The open mic nights with local performers were a blast. The bar is well equipped, but closes (apart from events like the open mic nights) early but this is not really a problem since there are countless alternatives in walking distance.

We had a nice time. When the housekeeping staff came in to clean while we were there, they did no wiping of the bathroom. Once, they left us no towels. The refrigerator was missing and we had to call to get one. The room was lovely and the beams in the ceiling (I will never forget) Golf carts for hauling guests around would be helpful. Our family loved Oscar. He was our guide for the horseback riding and ATV's. He was so kind to the children-I don't think they will forget him. Oscar also concerned about safety. I cant remember the names of the two gentlemen who took us zip-lining. They too were very safety oriented. They were patient and fun to be with. The Spa is beautiful! The staff is so welcoming and loving and I cant remember the name of the gal that did my facial. I loved her. I can say my facial was on Monday the 25 and my appointment was in the afternoon. My name Vivian and sister Joanne loved our facial. A beautiful experience and a beautiful mountain resort in Costa Rica.

Amazing location - near by Nepenthe hotel in town El Castillo, 30 min away from La Fortuna town, 40 min from away la Fortuna waterfall, and Mistico hanging bridges, 25-30 min from hot springs and Arenal National Park. A bit of dirt road to drive to, but even with sedan car it’s accessible, we hear a lot of toucans while driving and saw one :) Staff is really helpful, they also sell tours on reception, breakfast is not buffet- but they have 2 options in menu. Rooms are clean and spacious ( we had junior suite). You can see volcano out of your window and hear birds all the time. Great for the price.

When you drive up and see the grungy looking signs by the road and in the parking lot, you may think that you are in the wrong place or have made a mistake booking this place. BUT DO NOT WORRY. Just enter the property to the left of the parking lot. It is beautiful. The adult pool (with a tree mosaic) and the children's pool (with a dolphin mosaic) are beautifully maintained. Likewise, the gardens, with palm trees, papaya trees and mango trees and well maintained. The rooms are in little stuccoed cabins with tiled roofs-- 2 rooms per cabin. Room # 6 was especially nice. They are a good size with huge closets. The beds are comfortable. There is only a sheet--no blanket. But this is not really a problem. All you need to do is turn down the AC if you are too cool. There are many lovely birds flying in the gardens and there are 3 large parrots in a large pen. If they are encouraged, they will say "Hola" Breakfast is in an open air breakfast room with a thatched roof. It is delicious--beans and rice, scrambled eggs and toast. There is a little beach 5 to 10 minutes away. It is best when the tide is out. If you have a car, there are other nicer beaches 5 to 10 minutes drive away--PLaya Flamingo, Playa Brasilito and Playa El Conchal
