Great place for short or long stays, although it is in a dire need of a facelift, wonderful staff and management, particularly the current frontdesk manager: many thanks for everything and best wishes Mr. Hendy! But what you care most about is what the place (I mean the city) has to offer in general; they've just lifted the travel restrictions earlier this year. So, for:- those of you familiar with ID and Batam, you already know 1 week here is long enough, although you should take advantage of the currently low rates and cost of living; - those of you traveling here for the first time: 1 week might be too long, particularly if you've already experienced Thailand. In general, their perception and understanding of entertainment are far different, there're mosques pretty much everywhere (there's a prominent one right in front of the hotel, and across from the main tourist spot in the region; good job guys and thanks for being so f hospitable, welcoming and sensitive to foreign visitors' needs) and the local entertainment providers have started swindling and scamming tourists, as well: avoid the Planet Holiday KTV (based on the hotel manager's direct recommendation!), Dynasty KTV, Mawar (across from Diamond City Mall in Nagoya) and Jasmine Massage (near Hans Inn and Nagoya Citywalk), in particular. There're very few tourists here at the moment (I was the only bule in the hotel and local shopping malls for days and weeks in a row) and hotel rates are low, but the place (I mean the city streets) is as dirty and messed up as the looks and habits of most locals (the rats in Kampung Bule are quite eloquent and notorious); as a result they've adapted the local merchandise, as well, and nothing in those damn local shopping malls fits anymore. Upside overall: low rates and general cost of living; Downside: hotels, entertainment venues and airports are now filled up with locals, and many of these can successfully compete to be the most obnoxious and uneducated people not just in SE Asia, but in the whole f world. I almost forgot about the tourist visa fees: 500k IDR whether you stay for a month or just a few hours, and it's applicable to all passports, and their f immigration feel so f good about it, as it's meant to boost tourism in the country, of course; that's exactly what the country needed after the extended lockdowns! Their tourist visa renewal process is a blast, as well: day1 - you submit lots of documents and photocopies, and they put it in a red paper folder; day2 - you have to go back to the same place so they can take a photo, and no, you can't do that on the same day no matter how much you'd insist and tell them how f stupid this is; day3,4,5 or 6 - you have to go back there, in person once more, to check whether the visa has been issued and stamped into your passport. In my case this meant taking a taxi from hotel to the immigration office twice every f day for nearly a week, thus doubling the visa renewal costs; on day2 I actually returned to pay the f 500k fee, and on day3 I came back for the f photo shoot, because they won't do any f work after 4 PM, despite the fact that their working hours are from 8:00 AM to 5 PM. They don't tell you it takes nearly a f week to renew it, and if you've never done this before, then you'll learn all about it the hard way, after submitting the documents and paying that f 500k f visa fee. Their immigration staff do not understand or care how embarrassing and damaging this is to their tourism industry, and will meet complaints with lousy wretched smiles.
