Pemuteran hotels & places to stay

Pemuteran is quite isolated with not much to do around it, but it's nice and quiet compared to the south with gorgeous ocean and mountain vistas right beside each other. We went here specifically to dive and snorkel; it was ok, nothing mind blowing, and in fact the wall we went to near Menjangan was quite filthy... there was a serious amount of garbage floating up against Menjangan (have to snorkel in it), and the beach in Pemuteran was equally unpleasant. Beach was darker sand, not smooth/easy to walk on, and again there was some garbage which totally took away from the apparently lovely beach setting that's advertised in the guide books. However, Taman Sari is truly lovely - gorgeous gardens/grounds, lovely little thatched bungalows with awesome outdoor showers, nice staff, fabulous food, nice little cool pool, right on the beach (at least you have a decent view) and great seating areas around the beach for relaxing/drinking/dinner. Food was really, really good, and when we simply couldn't finish it all, the staff tracked us down to ask if everything was ok with it. PADI dive shop right next door was convenient, but expensive - $105 for 2 dives in mediocre Menjangan and $60 for snorkeling. Turtle hatchery/program a few doors down was sad - yes they release the babies, but they have a big 10 year old turtle in a 10x10 shallow pool who does pathetic laps back and forth all day going insane. Was sad. Anyways, Resort was lovely, surroundings less so...

I visited in 2011 and wrote a glowing review. In re-reading it, I see that everything I said then holds true now. Pemuteran is a special place, and the black-sand beach bay that Adi Assri is situated on is a perfect place to experience it. (Plus, the new giant pool is a killer.) 2011 Review: "Pretty blown away at what this hotel offers. The only problem? I felt guilty, for paying the price I paid. This was the best deal during my 6 months in SE Asia. The grounds are nice, bungalows clean, cool, and stylish. Two impeccably maintained pools beachside. Food terrific. Loved the attention room service gave me. The snorkeling off the beach is fantastic. Staff ridiculously friendly and approachable. Tucked in the midst of the fishing village, the place feels more like old Bali than new. Great snorkeling trip with the attached dive shop. Pemuteran is a special place, and this hotel the perfect place to experience it. Hurt like hell to have to leave it."

The hotel spans a huge area near Pemuteran. It is nicely done with a lot of plants and flowers along the alleys. The beach is quite small, and with black sand. The buildings have a classic Balinese architecture. The rooms are small bungalows, very nicely done. Staff is excellent: smiling, helpful and good English. The food is good: fresh fruit juice for breakfast. The spa is also great: 2 buildings lining up a basin with water features and water lilies. Very relaxing. The massage was excellent.

Love our stay- pemuteran is off the beaten path of the crazy touristy areas of Bali. Best snorkelling off the resort beach we've ever encountered. If you like snorkelling and diving, this is the spot for you. We had a ocean front villas, beautiful facilities. Great food and amenities. Staff go the extra mile every time. We had a bad sun burn and casually mentioned it to one of the waitresses, 15 minutes later they had picked fresh aloe from the garden and applied it for us free of charge. Not much to do in pemuteran, so if you're looking for a great snorkel, relax by the beach with good food, this place is for you. We will definitely be back.

Travelling with a friend through Bali, we got to book very last minute Sumberkima Hill following a disastrous one night (which was initially 3 nights) in one of the few 3-star hotels in the area. Upon arrival we had a bit of confusion finding the Reception (which we were informed later that day that it was still being built) but after a few minutes one of the friendly staff came to welcome us and brought us directly to the villa itself and dd the check-in onsite (which does give a very personal feeling !). Despite booking last minute and requested a one bedroom villa, we were offered a 3-bedroom villa all for the same rate without any fuss. We were just asked for our passports ad that was all, no paperwork to sign, no credit cards taken. All went very smooth and minutes later our passport were returned with 2 delicious welcome drinks. Talking about client service and hospitality, wow ! Later in the evening we went for dinner at their restaurant (that has a fantastic panoramic view over the bay) where we were offered the dinner package for the day (it was different every night) but were also given the choice to eat a la carte. The restaurant has a simple yet warm and welcoming setting and the food even though high end, was presented in a simple way (not overly fancy and stiff), and was just delicious ! To our surprise, the owner/manager (Bernard) went around the tables to introduce himself asked for feedback and explained the concept of the Retreat, all in a very chilled atmosphere. We thought that was such a nice and personal touch. It wasn't a long chat but it made us feel valued and appreciated as guests. What was also a great concept was that the restaurant was open from 7am to 10pm, we were not restrained by specific and/or limited time slots for meals. And meals could be served in the villas at the same rate. During our entire stay, they staff were all friendly and were felt almost like family, being attentive to our needs without overdoing it or pushing. Th

From the very first moment you arrive, every staff member greets you with a warm smile and let you know that you're now a part of the Taruna Homestay family. Whilst you sip on your fresh watermelon juice (or whatever other welcome drinks you choose) and wipe your face with your fresh towels, one of the staff members explains to you everything you need to know about the hotel and Pemuteran, including providing useful maps to the area. Taruna runs an excellent homestay, with a gorgeous pool area with sunlounges, luxurious outdoor bathrooms and a restaurant with the freshest Balinese dishes that are just delicious. I especially enjoyed their fresh seafood (this is a fishing village, afterall!) such as the grilled whole baby snapper with three local sauces served on the side. Breakfast is included in the room price and, as all meals offered at the restaurant, can be served as room service on your patio facing the garden or pool area. There are a few choices, inluding eggs cooked to your liking with toast, nasi/mie goreng and pancakes. You'll also receive fresh fruit, a fresh juice and tea/coffee. With rooms for AUD$20-$25 per night (200-250,000 IDR), Taruna's homestay is absolutely incredible value, especially nestled amongst the beachside resorts of Pemuteran. It's location is on the eastern starting point on the stretch of the main Seririt-Gilimanuk Rd/Desa Pemuteran that is the closest thing the a town centre that Pemuteran gets. You can easily book diving and snorkeling tours to Menjangan Island, book tours to other parts of Bali, rent a motorcycle, buy gifts and souvenirs and exhange money at all the hotel reception. ATMs are a short 2 minute walk from the hotel in front of the Adi Assri hotel. Overall, I highly recommend anyone in the Pemuteran area to stay here!!!!

Sun Suko really lived up to our expectations. My daughter and I were able to choose our room and decided to stay in Batik which had a breathtaking view of the pool and the mountains. All the rooms are beautifully designed and individually furnished. The service was great. All the staff were friendly and went the extra mile to ensure our stay was perfect. The food was the best we have had in Bali, and the cook kindly shared her recipes when asked. The owner, Anja, was very welcoming and friendly, and her husband kept us entertained with details about life in Bali as he drove us from the airport to the resort. A brilliant week. We both feel renewed and would love to come again!

i arrived late at night to this hotel but the staff were only too happy to help get me checked in and have some dinner after a long drive. i don't know if i can do this hotel justice...it is not the fanciest of places but definitely a favourite. little details such as fresh flowers and ornately presented meals and drinks turn eating into a beautiful ritual. the staff were always smiling, happy and very helpful...although they do not speak much english, so pack your phrase book. pemuteran is a small town and you will not find many tourists...at least not during low season..but that is the beauty of it.

We love this simple homestay with just four rooms set in a lovely garden filled with chicken, chicks, a cat and kittens. The room was spacious and kept very clean, the bathroom had a half-open roof and it was lovely to shower under the stars or the sun, and we loved also the setting in the countryside on the way to Romantic Beach, away from the main drag of Pemuteran and the resorts. Our hosts Gede and his wife Kadek are lovely people who can't do enough to hep, whether helping you hire a scooter, book a snorkelling trip or a trek in the national park. Food in the small Warung was delicious and freshly cooked, breakfast great and plentiful. We stayed for ten days and felt like part of the family, with Gede and Kadek becoming good friends. There is no pool but there are so many beachside resorts within a 5-min drive on the scooter who let you use their pool, this was not a problem. The peace and quiet was unbeatable. As was the price. We left out baggage here and went up the coast for a couple of nights and coming back was really like coming home. Absolutely lovely.

Good stay. The owner and his staff will do everything possible on earth to make your stay pleasant. He will supply to everything you need and advice you according to your preferences. The rooms are a good 3* in European standards not a 4*. Problems of strong smell due to the neighborhood (farm animals in the vincinity). The owner tried to fix it and said the animals should move in few months. The cooking is excellent and better than most restaurants around. Very clean. We gave 50 000idr for the cleaning staff. I guess the owner gave them to the cleaning staff. Excellent services. I enjoyed a lot the massage. I was upset with the beaches which are really dirty but there is nothing the hotel can do about it. Don t go to pemuteran if you are looking for white sand beaches. However you can a nice beach if you rent a motorbike and go to the beach closed to the place were boats for Menjangan leave. Diving and snorkeling were good. Globally it was a very good stay.

Fantastic rooms, incredible details in the decoration and a private mezzanine where you can relax and read. Marcel and Katrin are awesome hosts with good advice for travelers. They helped arrange for the rest of our trip. We also had our first diving course. Marcel was very helpful to help us get used to the activity. We did a first instructed try in the pool in the morning and one in the sea in the afternoon. They also pointed us to a good spot to snorkel our own just near the hotel. Once again, the snorkeling quipement was provided by the hotel. Will definitely come back here if ever in the area.

The staff there are all so friendly. The room was big and very nice with a great outdoor bathroom. We booked a standard AC room so it was right next to the pool. The owners helped us book a snorkeling trip and it was much cheaper than if we had gone to the dive shop ourselves because they have an agreement with this dive shop. I would highly recommend this place and if we return to Pemuteran we will stay here again!

Hi, This is a new hotel, then instalations are new, which is a point to take into account. Rooms are quite enough large and clean, with aircon and flat TV. Amenities in the bath, and no more, but for the price we think is a very good option. You will need a car or a motorbike to go to the center. They have us rented one for 70000 IDR. Staff is fantastic, two girls, whose english should be improved, but the supply this with all their efforts in helping you to do your stay comfortable and perfect. Only one advice. There is wifi in common areas, and a signal comes to the rooms, but doesn't work there. I guess this would be easy to solve and it would improve the customer's stay.

Suka Sari is on the main road of Pemuteran, a really lovely family run hotel with approx 8 rooms (non aircon'd). The rooms were very clean and spacious, with lovely outdoor bathrooms. All rooms are surrounding the well kept gardens and a neat little cafe. The staff were extremely friendly, including Mr Suki (owner) who ensured our stay was pleasant. At the time of writing, the hotel is only 8 months old and were building 3 new deluxe rooms due to the popularity and value of the place.

+ confortable room, looks better than on the picture ( and for the first time we actually got the full flower decoration on the bed :) ) + really close to the beach, wich is just at the end of the gang. + watch the stars in your shower ! + Putu and his wife are super friendly, and reeeally helpfull. When i needed to see a doctor, he took time to drive me there, and then to drive to 3 other villages to get my medecine, and wanted to do it for free ! Just really nice people ! + good food for very reasonnable prices - in Jun 2017, some renovation works going on. Not as much annoying you would think, as they try their best not to annoy too much the guest. Really recommend this place, and Permuteran in general, wich is a very pleasant town and not just a basecamp to Pulau Mejangan. Ps: Putu offers snorkeling trips at better prices that what we found in the city. Even if snorkeling is not a really dangerous activity, just keep in mind that as most of the time in Bali, you don't go with real professional. During the trip i bursted my eardrum (just bad luck, nobodie's fault) but the so called monitor we paid was of no help we i was in pain and gave me only but bad advises. So it's cheapper but only count on you !

Cannot recommend a better place. Beautiful location and exquisitely laid out. Very well maintained gardens and bungalows. The outside bathroom was delightful - like showering in a private botanical garden! The staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful with any trips that you may want to organise. The breakfast and evening meals were amazing. The walk to the beach is barely 2 minutes so don't let that put you off. Great value for money and we will definitely go back on our next visit to Bali.

New cozy place to stay in Pemuteran. 10 mins walk to the beach. Quiet and close to nature. There are 4 bungalos all with view to garden and mountains. At night you can watch the stars... Good breakfast (I take all the time fresh friuts and that was really enough before dive? my friends liked mie goreng). They serve drinks with bamboo straw! That's amazing! The staff is super nice family with little boy.) Some minuses for me: no water dispenser (no place to refill your own bottle), it would be great to hav this option in such lovely place and support plastic less movement and it is much cheaper than to buy a tons of small bottles! Only cold shower, it would be great to have some hooks in the room (especially near the sink), the table was kind of tricky to work at (if you need some laptop working space), the wifi is useless, very low speed, we used internet from our phone.

The bungalow itself was perfect -- I loved the porch, the outdoor shower, and the super-comfy bed. The owner put the biggest smile on my face when he offered me a fresh coconut from his yard. His wife is seriously amazing...she served me breakfast at 5:45 am when I had to catch an early bus. It's a little bit of a walk from the beach, but nice to stay on a quiet side street instead of the main road.

the moment you enter and leave the high reception building your jaw drops. this is a beautiful resort with a well-groomed garden, nice villa's, a clean infinity-pool (spectacular sea view included)and a restaurtant with excellent service and food. the villa's are very nice, spatious enough. we did not use the bathroom much, because of the presence of an outdoor shower. yummy! one thing though, the villa's are dark, especially the bathroom. my daily wet-shaving job became somewhat of a challenge. two villa's are connected with two locked doors (as you see in some hotels). for families this is a nice extra. the bed came with a mosquito net. the tv had 3 channels ?!?!. finding news was impossible. the lounge area around the pool was very good, there even was a place to pick up books and some games. we did not use the spa, so no comment there. in the restaurant there is a big enough menu to pick from. we had at least one day we had all our meals there. pemuteran is a small village. apart from a mountain walk and a monkey temple, there is not much there. we recommend this one. good value for money.

I think we might have been upgraded because we only booked a standard double room but ended up with a massive room next to the pool (W2), with a floor to ceiling view, it was amazing when we walked in! Everything was clean and comfortable, the staff was friendly and helped us book a driver (Adi) to Bali Tower Bistro at a very affordable cost. We found the bathroom layout a bit strange that there were no hooks for clothes, only 1 rack near the shower, and no shelves to put our shampoo & shower gel bottles. But that was a very minor thing. Loved our stay and will definitely be back. PS: Check out Warung Taruna right opposite to the homestay, they have amazing food!

Stayed 5 nights and loved every minute. Room was smallish but big enough for 2 and outside bathroom was a nice touch. Room was very clean and serviced daily and the bed was the comfiest we’ve had in Bali yet (and linen smelt really good). Aircon worked really well as did hot water and the shower was a bit of a novelty. No TV or fridge in the room but that wasn’t a problem for us. Breakfast wasn’t bad but not the best we have had however we had a few dinners in the restaurant and were very impressed with these (and pricing was reasonable). Staff were very sweet and attentive. Swimming pool was great and the garden surrounds and mountain views were spectacular. Only a short walk into central Pemuteran and to the beach. Only negative was the wifi was pretty much non existent.

I had a nice time with my brother there. The place was nice and the highlights include the nice warung as well as the small international bar that is located in the premises of Badini Bungalows. The owner was really friendly and also gave us the traditional ceremonial outfit in order to attend the full moon ceremony with all the locals! This was really special and we were just 6-10 tourists with thousands locals all dressed with ceremonial white and we even participated in the Hindu pray. After that there was even a ceremonial kris trance dance and the experience was authentic and unique. One of our best moments the trip, thanks to the kind owner of Badini!

Located on a very strategic area, just around 15 mins from Banyuwedang (dock to cross over to Menjangan Island), this hotel is strongly recommended. The staff is really friendly and patient. We arrived in Hotel at around 1 am in the morning, we still got our booked rooms and Bli Juli was still waiting for our coming. The only thing that this hotel should improve is the Hotel Sign on Pemuteran Road. We had a bit difficulty in finding this hotel.
