“Cleanliness & Attitude Of The Staff”
Extremely disappointed with the cleanliness and staff attitude We stayed at JH Hotel Singapore on August 1st because we were attending a concert at The Star Theatre (Buona Vista). We arrived late around 7:30pm, quickly checked in, dropped off our luggage, and rushed out to the concert — we had no time to inspect the room at all. When we returned after the concert and a quick dinner, it was already past midnight. That’s when we noticed the disgusting condition of the room — sticky stains on the table, the area near the water kettle, and the bedside drawer. It was clear the surfaces had not been cleaned at all, likely left behind by previous guests. We were shocked and disappointed that the room was handed over in this state. I went to speak with a male Chinese receptionist about the issue, and instead of taking immediate responsibility, the first thing he asked was, “What time did you check in?” — as if to imply we could have caused the mess ourselves. I told him we checked in at 7:30pm, rushed to the concert, and only just returned. I even showed him photos of the dirty surfaces. He apologized and said housekeeping was handled by the morning shift, and that he had only just started his shift at 11pm. He promised to send someone up, as there were no other rooms available. When the housekeeping staff came, I showed him the unclean areas. Instead of just doing his job, he too questioned what time we had checked in, implying again that we might be the ones who caused the mess — saying something like “You’ve already showered, clearly you’ve been in the room for 2–3 hours.” That comment made me really upset. I explained we got back late and wanted to take a shower before coming down to raise the issue, but that doesn’t mean the dirt was ours. When I challenged him and asked, “Are you implying we made the room dirty?”, he responded by saying, “Our hotel is clean. We don’t have cleanliness issues. Even our boss monitors our work.” That really crossed the line. I told him clearly: “If your hotel is so clean, then what am I seeing right now in my room? Are you suggesting I dirtied the room on purpose just to complain at 1am?” I demanded he clean the entire room properly and even change the bed sheets. After he was done, I went downstairs again to file a proper complaint and saw him chatting with the receptionist. I expressed my full dissatisfaction to both of them. I told them clearly: “Don’t assume we are here for some short 2-hour stay. We are here on legitimate business, and we don’t have time to dirty a room and fake a complaint just for fun in the middle of the night.” This experience was unacceptable. Poor cleanliness is bad enough — but being indirectly accused of lying or creating the mess ourselves was insulting and unprofessional. I will not be returning and do not recommend this hotel to others.
