Toshima hotels & places to stay

This is the last night, 7 in total. I didn't hold out big expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. We arrived very early hours of the morning after bus dropped us of at Ikebukuro station after a very delayed flight. Eventually found the hotel, quick check in we were up to our room and hit the pillow. On waking was wowed by the most amazing view from our 24 floor window. Yes room small, but used the space well. Desk at the window with TV, kettle, desk lamp & folding mirror. underneath safe & fridge with chair. I booked a twin room thinking this would give us a little more room. Beds really comfortable with 2 down pillows each. Bedside table between with light controls & bed lamp. Cotton waffle night gown & slippers each. Bathroom consists of bath/shower, toilet with all the bells & whistles. toiletries pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap on tap, cotton tips, 2 toothbrush & paste, 2 combs, 2 shower caps, 2 razors/ cream & combination brush/comb. Everything super clean & bedding/ towels white white. Staff so helpful. Family Mart in the foyer that is 24/7 that has every thing you need. Hotel is in a shopping center and close to Ikebukuro station. So happy with our choice of hotel & will definitely stay here again if we are ever back in Tokyo.

Ikebukuro is one of the best locations to stay in Tokyo, and Hotel Metropolitan is one of the best hotels to stay due to its easy and convenient access to public transport. It is less than 5 mins walk away from the Ikebukuro train station (narita express stops here). Airport limo bus also stops in this hotel in Ikebukuro. Yes, it is pricey. The rooms are not large for 3 beds, to be honest. But if I am looking for a hotel in Ikebukuro, Hotel Metropolitan will definitely be my first choice.

Boutique Hotel in the heart of Ikebukuro. Take the exit from East gate, meet Zara and Big Camera then on the next is Centurion Ikebukuro Hotel. The location short walking to Ikebukuro station and shopping mall ,7-11 on 1st floor ,Denny restaurant on 2nd floor. Metro subway and JR station is in this area. From Haneda Airport , you can take the airport limousine bus and stop at Ikebukuro Station west exit . Sunshine City Prince Hotel is a bit far but timetable has variety. The staffs are so friendly to help during my 6 nights at this hotel.

Great location, located at the end of Sunshine-Dori, close to city centre and shops. There are quite a number of convenience stores and supermarkets nearby. 24-hour shop is also in 10-minute walking distance. Clean and tidy room. Nice reception and helpful staff though not all of them could understand English. I am a female travelling in Toyko alone and would definitely recommend this hotel for travellers of same occasion as me. This hotel has been very popular among travellers and would recommend those who would like to live near to city centre of Ikebukuro to book this hotel early to secure a room.

The best thing about this hotel was its fantastic location, only a 3 min walk from the East Exit of the JR Ikebukuro Station which is particularly convenient if you have a JR pass and can use the Yamanote Line for free. The rooms were really modern and new and the rain shower was fantastic. Breakfast was also good to have. In all, the room isn't huge (no cupboards) but it really wasn't an issue. One note of caution is that the toilet door isn't opaque but only frosted and only 1 card key is given. But overall, we looked at a few other hotels in Ikebukuro and around Shinjuku and this hotel was definitely the best value. Location can't be beat!

We booked our room for New Year's Eve ON New Year's Eve which is an extremely busy hotel day in Tokyo. We didn't expect much from the hotel since it was the only hotel in Tokyo that still had rooms for New Years. However, we were very pleasantly surprised! The staff were friendly and efficient and also spoke English. The rooms were clean and exactly what we needed for our stay. For the price and last minute reservations, the room was larger than I expected and well appointed. The hotel was a little out of the way and in an unexpected area (when you're walking up on it, you don't really expect to find a nice hotel located there) but is still only an 8-10 minute walk from Ikebukuro station and only about a 5 minute walk from Sunshine City (which is a huge shopping center/aquarium/observation deck). What was probably the biggest surprise was the breakfast that was included in our room fee. It was delicious! And a ton more food than I expected. It was probably the best breakfast I've had from a business hotel that was also included in the room deal. Definitely a great experience, and if I need to stay in Ikebukuro again in the future, I will be staying at this hotel!

No matter its sunmer (stay date 9 Aug) or winter, the location very convenient because the airport limo bus stop at nearby Ikebukuro West Exit, move down into underground walkway & you can walk with ease until the another end of Exit, once climb up the stairs, a u turn 1 min walk, you will see the side entrance of hotel. Very good spread of breakfast. Spacious roo m (enough to open mid sized checkin luggage). Water can be drink so you can skip buying water. Breakfast is wonderful Japanese rice style (buffet). For price, location, comfortable (especially i can choose pillow), and privacy (got your own toilet & bath tub), its really worth.

literally right next to a JR station. 1 stop N. of Ikebukuro Station. Has bike park on 2nd level. Microwave on 1st floor, vending machines, laundry. Soundproof windows. Quick stop to Ikebukuro but considerably less than a hotel there. 2 big supermarkets w/lots of produce 1 block + 3 blocks. Lots of shops + restaurants in town - Welcia, Tsutaya, Lawson, Family Mart w/in a few blocks, McDonalds 1 block, and lots of cafes, bakeries, noodle shops. Lot of small business in the area. Akabane 2 stops N. on JR is worth a look. 4.8 mi on bike to Tokyo Dome to the S. Good value, inexpensive, but just a few train hops from major western JR stations. JR Itabashi station recently rebuilt + has new ammenities like clean restrooms, conbini right in the station, and escaltors. If you want to be close to action in Shinjuku/Ikebukuro/Shibuya, but save $ + see small town Japan too, this is it. Can't go wrong.

This hotel locates near JR Otsuka station which is only 5 minutes walk from the station. Reasonable price with such good location and nice and tidy room, it is certainly a hotel value-for-money. If you go from JR Otsuka stattion, there is a steep slope on the way heading for the hotel. For girls with builky and heavy luggages may found it devastating to walk up that "hill". You may of course wait in from of the station and wait for the tram. It takes only 3 minutes for the tram to get from JR Otsuka Station to the next stop which is nearest to the hotel. Then it takes only less than 1 minute walk from the stop to the hotel. Keep in mind that the waiting time for the tram could be long and the last tram would be around 8pm. Not a good choice if in a rush. Another choice to get to the hotel would be from JR Ikebukuro Station, Higashi-exit. Though it would take around 15 minutes walk, you will pass through the renowned Sunshine-Dori and loads of other shops along by. The reception of the hotel is located on the 1/F and you will need to waslk up a stairs from the ground floor. A lift could take you up from the ground floor to all other floors of the hotel. However, the operating time of the lift has been 0800 - 2200. For all other time, you will have to walk up and down the stairs. Some of the room amenities are available at the Hotel Lobby. You may take from the Lobby for what you need for free. Some of the amenities are charged. If you are staying here for more than 1 night and you have not bring your own towels, you may take from the Lobby as well. But you will have to take it as soon as possible since its limited in supply and they would not refill the basket if all towels are taken. This hotel will charge for cleaning service if you would like their cleaning staff to tidy up your room. I would recommend this hotel for short stay.

WOW. There’s literally nothing I don’t like about this hotel. The room was spotless but extremely small like all Japanese hotel which I totally don’t find it as an issue as I am a petite Asian. It’s around 5-10mins walk from Ikebukuro station, with a Family Mart <1min walk away. However, the stretch of road from the train station exit to the hotel seems to be an “entertainment” street but it doesn’t bother me much, in fact, I find it interesting and didn’t felt unsafe walking at night. Ikebukuro is very conveniently located, with direct train (Narita Express) from airport. To be honest, I booked a hotel in Ikebukuro because hotels in Shinjuku & Shibuya are so overpriced but I ended up preferring Ikebukuro over Shinjuku & Shibuya as it is less crowded and has plenty of cafes, restaurants and shopping places as well. All ladies get to choose 5 items (lotion sachets, shower cap, nail file etc) for free at the reception daily which is a very nice touch, I posted on my IG story and got quite a few PMs from ladies asking me for the hotel’s name. I LOVEEEE the onsen so much that I went there to shower and soak daily instead of using the bathroom in my hotel room. Highly recommend big sized individuals who find the bathroom in hotel room too small to go to the onsen to shower instead if you don’t mind being naked in front of others. The breakfast was free for all guest and it was super delicious!!! Huge variety and tasted so healthy yet delicious! The hotel uses ionic water, which is supposed to be healthier? Bring a water bottle with you as the hotel provides water cooler. Also, if you opt out of the room cleaning service, towels will still be provided daily (they hang outside the door) & they will reward you with free bottled water. This hotel practise no check out at the reception so you can just leave the room and you’re “checked out”. I rarely dedicate so much of my time to type such a long review but this hotel is so worth it! Highly recommend to anyone visiting

The first thing that prompted me to book this hotel is definitely the washing and drying machine. However, keep in mind, it will usually take at least 3 hours to complete the whole cycle! First pack of laundry soap is free, but then you have to buy it for only 30 yen!!! The room itself is not spacious, but it is pretty new. However, the bathroom is much bigger than most business hotel with a huge tub as well. One thing to keep in mind, there is no room service for 6 days or less, but the cleaning stuff will change your garbage and linens. Again, I'm not a messy person, so it wasn't a big deal. Plus, I never understand people who treat the hotel room as a garbage dump. One thing I find it irritating is the air-conditioner's light really disturbs my sleep because it's so bright, but I don't think there's anything I could do about that except turn the air-con off. Also, the hotel does not provide cups for tea etc. It would be nice to at least have a cup for the tea packs near the electric kettle and microwave. The hotel's security is really top-notched. You need a key card in order to go into the elevator and up to your floor. The location is perfect as it is in the heart of Ikebukuro and is near the JR train station. As many of you have pointed out, take the West C6 exit, then turn left on the main street once you are up the escalator until you see a 7-11, then turn left again and you'll see it on your right pretty soon. There are many restaurants open at night near the area as well. The staff is attentive and speaks pretty well English (although I've also used my minimum Japanese as well). One girl in glasses tried to help me about delivering my luggage to Narita Airport. If the price is right again, I will definitely book this hotel. Overall: 9/10

My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Grand City. It wasn't difficult for us to find its location and there was hardly any trouble checking in. The staff was very attentive, kind and polite but if you're using English to communicate, you should slow down a bit for the staff. The double room we stayed in was clean and nice; not that spacious, but nice. We didn't eat at the hotel, so we wouldn't know whether the food was good or not. Our only complaint is that the AC in the room wasn't strong enough, so it was a little bit too warm in the room, but honestly it didn't cause us too big of a trouble. If you're planning on staying at the Hotel Grand City, quick/easy access to public transportation (i.e., metro) and major shopping centres/department stores and popular restaurants in the area are guaranteed. Overall, we would like to recommend this hotel to those who wish to find an ideal hotel in Ikebukuro.

having stayed at hotel changtee for 6 days, i love it there. if you are looking for a simple, no frills and clean hotel, i would recommend hotel changtee. although the rooms are small, it is sufficient for a solo traveler. there is a little pantry and kitchen which are open for guests' use. love - free wifi, near ikebukuro station, tobu, seibu, big camera, marui city, parco, tokyu hands, sunshine city dori, etc. i also recommend the matsumoto kiyoshi for things like health supplements, snacks, heat packs, cosmetics, etc. ikebukuro station is on the jr yamanote line and it is also a major train exchange station. a great base for exploring tokyo or even its outskirts. from haneda airport, it is better to go via the hamamatsucho station rather than shinagawa station. enjoy your stay.

This place is on the outskirts of Tokyo about 20mins away from the heart of Tokyo. The hotel is about 5 mins walk from Otsuka station and next door there is the famous Onigiri place called Bongo. We went there after dropping off our luggages. Check in was self serve however there were English speaking staff to assist. You needed the passports of all the people staying and you also had to pay at the same time, then you get a receipt and 2 cards. Before entering the lift, you could get amenities which were additional to that in your room. Everything in the room was made out of Japanese wood and the walls were Tiffany blue. The room was amazing and pretty big for Japanese standard. Totally homey feel and didn’t feel like you were in a hotel!! The room could fit minimum 2 people to maximum probably 4 people. You could wash your clothes for a fee on level 5. There is a cafe and restaurant on the first 2 floors owned by the hotel. The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming, making the place an even more enjoyable place to stay! Although more on the expensive side, however the experience and atmosphere of the hotel is totally worth it! Loved it and would definitely recommend anyone looking to go to Tokyo to stay there!

It takes around 5-8 mins walk to the nearest exit of the JR station, which is very favorable. And it is very near to the crowded area of Ikebukuro, which means there are a lots of restaurant that is nice for handing out and also open till midnight. The staffs are nice and really helpful, they've been really nice to us that they even helped to heat the food with microwave which I got from Familymart nearby (yes, there is two convenient store nearby the hotel and another one on the other side of the road) which he didn't have to so. The position is easy to find also. Overall I will be staying in this hotel in the future. Strongly recommended.

There are positive and negative reviews on this hotel. To be honest, my first impression of this hotel is slightly dated with no facilities. However, I was surprised when I entered my unit 305 to note that for a twin room, it has ample space for me and my friend to store our 2 big luggages. Note that in Japan room size is small especially for a centralized location. For the minimal amount paid per night stay, we are getting a real good deal. In addition, the room was clean and we inspected the corners and no dust was found. Daily housekeeping service is included in the package. The bathroom is very small and cramp but fitted with a powerful shower head and necessities like shampoo and bath gel. There is an attached washing basin near the door entrance with white light which works wonder for our perfect make-up! Tooth brush sets, hair bands, shower caps, body sponges etc are also provided free of charge. Location is excellent with a mere 5-10 minutes walk to JR/Seibu Ikebukuro station. It is also convenient to take N'EX from Narita airport to reach JR Ikebukuro station directly. There is a famous ramen restaurant with daily long queues just beside the hotel. The only disadvantages are the lack of free wifi, small ground lobby and lift. Otherwise, this is a great no-frills hotel stay and everything else will appear to be bonuses :)

This hotel locates at Kitagochi exit of JR Ikebukuro Station where most of the pubs and whorehouses are in vicinity. As a female travelling in Tokyo alone, I feel quite uncomfortable walking around the area after 10pm. Its only around 7 minutes walk from JR Ikebukuro Station (Minami-exit / Kita-exit). Nice and tidy room. Helpful staff at reception though most of them could not speak English (Out of the 8 staff members that I came across during my stay in this hotel, only 1 could speak English). During my stay in Tokyo, i got a flu and had not been feeling well. I had been vomitting and diarrhea for 2 days. I went to the reception and ask if there would be any clinics nearby which opened on Staurday. The receptionist (he was the only one who could speak English) had tried to search through the net and found one for me. He then drew a map and showed me the way to that clinic in great details. I also asked if they could help me to wash my clothes since they got my vomit on it. He explained that the hotel could not help to wash clothes with vomit on. But then he again showed me the way to a coin laundry nearby and drew me a map for the way to that coin laundry again. The next day he saw me going out, he asked if I was feeling better already and wish me good day. It has been very touching and I am really thankful for his help. I wrote a thank you card to him and passed to his colleague on the day I checked out. I would also like to take the opportunity in writing this review to express my deepest gratitude to him for all his help and detailed explanations for my speedy recovery so I could enjoy my stay in Tokyo for the remaining days of my journey.

depends on how fast you walk but for us, the hotel is a 10 mins walk from Ikebukuro station. Reception is on the 2nd floor, not ideal for those with big/heavy luggages. Lots of convenience stores around (7 eleven, lawson, family mart) and with one directly on the 1st floor (ground). Usual hotel amenities with hair dryer/blower. Rooms are cleaned up everyday, towels are changed and staff speaks good english. They let us borrow umbrellas to go around for it was raining in spring. To get there: look for the north exit 20b of Ikebukuro stn, cross the street and walk til the intersection, turn right and walk straight ahead. Better if you provide hotel pics for easy search/find.

I stayed there 3 nights (6-8 Dec. 2017) and wanna say I love this the most of many things I choose to do in my Tokyo's solo trip :D Such a very NICE place, cool, unique, comfortable, cleanliness, friendly staff and good location. If you travel in Tokyo by JR or Tokyo's subway, you can get to 1st floor of the building in 10 step from Ikebukuro station, C8 exit (and I also saw the bus stop in front of this building too) then you can ride up to 8th floor to the hostel' front that you will meet the fascinating and charming things, maybe you will love there at the first sight like me! 7th and 8th floor are the area of Book And Bed, fitting and good, and the view from the high is nice all day and night. First time in Tokyo and loved the idea of staying in a Ryokan. Ikebukuro district was great for restaurants open late and a younger crowd. Hotel is a 5 minute walk to the JR train station. We used the Yamanoto line to get everywhere in Tokyo. Most of the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Room was comfortable and clean but had a strange smell to it. Would still recommend it to others.

Nice location. Near both JR train station and metro station ( About 5-10mins walk, just depends on your walking speed🤣). Room clean and neat, and much larger than I thought. Able to fully open my 26" luggage. Love their green policy, you may get 2 bottle of distilled water each day if you choose to just tidying up your bedsheets instead of changing it. Best for those who had an issue of directly drinking tap water...

I really enjoyed my stay here! Very easy to locate and a short walk from the train station and limousine bus stop. Very close to a lot of shops and attractions in east Ikebukuro, and the hostel itself is close to numerous convenience stores, a small supermarket, and a post office (which is where I accessed an international ATM) — would definitely reconsider staying here the next time I visit Tokyo! Really comfortable bed, staff were very friendly and accommodating, and food is really tasty too. Highly recommended! If you are into hostel accommodations or are looking into trying a hostel for the first time, this is a really good place to stay.

Staying at Sheena and Ippei was an absolute treat! The building itself is incredibly cute, the cafe space is cozy and the staff is incredible. Shota-san and Sachiko-san made me feel like I was home halfway across the world. The town itself is quiet but is just 1 train stop away from Ikebukuro, giving you the best of both worlds. I stayed in the dorm style room and it was comfortable and warm. There is a curtain to close off your bunk for privacy and the bedding was very cozy. I would love to come back next time I’m in Japan. Highly recommended!

1. house not clean enough 2. remote for light way of battery. 3. electric power for room 303 was turned off and without any notice. 4. it found flea in the carpet in room 202. 5. bidet of lavatory was broken in 2nd floor. 6. bathrooms in ground floor is dirty. as the water pressure not good enough. it affect that no hot water can be supported when we use both bathrooms at the same time.

This is my 2nd time booking at Toyoko Inn Ikebukuro. Love the hotel's location, and got it for a great value. Every time I'm booking hotels, Toyoko Inn is always my first choice. The hotel price always include breakfast, which is always a deal breaker for me. This hotel always serves good breakfast. All the staff are very nice, accommodating, and are willing to help. Utilities are amazing. Rooms and toilets are small, but are on point. I also love that this hotel is very close to Ikebukuro JR Station, and lots of restaurants, convenient stores, and more.

The hotel is located at Ikebukuro station, which is really prime as it's easy to travel to all the popular places easily via Yamamoto Line (JR Line). The service provided was really wonderful, the staff always took notice of us and greet us warmly whenever we enter or exit the hotel. And he even offered his help to carry our luggage down. The room is really huge and spacious that we could open 2 big luggage on the floor and walk easily. Definitely will stay at this hotel again!
