“Much potential but just misses that mark”
If you’re happy to explore the east of Singapore this is an excellent location - plenty of food options, especially halal ones, outlet shopping is next door, train access is practically doorstep. We stayed for 12 nights, in two rooms, both with a kitchenette. Spacious and relatively clean. Two washing machines and two dryers are available in the changing rooms on the second floor, near the gym and pool. Gym is spacious and well stocked for a hotel gym, pool is large and cleaner than some higher end hotels we’ve stayed at. AC’s worked without fault (Although one of our rooms’ ac was set too cold and couldn’t be adjusted. Staff were prompt in addressing this when we alerted them), water pressure is excellent. Microwaves, fridges worked without fault. Plenty of well placed electrical sockets, concealed vanity table came with its own electric socket and mirror. Beds were comfy but perfectly supportive, no back issues for anyone (we’ve had problems with poor mattresses even in higher end hotels) Overall a good hotel given the above, however some attention to detail would bring everything up even higher- Mildew in the rim of the drain stopper and air vent hole in the bathroom sink - I purchased my own bleach spray and solved this problem without scrubbing over a few nights, as mildew was that thick. Pink and black hued mildew in corners and walls of the shower area, and in the grouting - again bleach solved this. Bidet in both room bathrooms leaked profusely, presumably from an ill fitting hose. These issues were brought up to staff but to our knowledge nothing was done about it. There was also a rather perplexing hiccup at check in - we arrived at 12:30pm, did an early check in, and as the rooms were, understandably, not ready yet, we left our luggage and went out, returning at 7:30pm. We were then told the rooms were not ready. They tried to give us another set of rooms but bafflingly both with king sized beds though one room was meant for our teenage son and daughter. The other room when we opened it was in the midst of being Ionised. Issue was solved after about 30 - 40 mins of back and forth. We can’t fathom how this happened at 7:30pm after having arrived 7 hours prior to check in. Unacceptable. When we got to our final rooms, we found a baby lizard in one of them - this issue was solved empathetically and swiftly much to my children’s relief. The windows on the pool facing side made bizarre noises, which reminded us of children’s snap bracelets, the sound like that of metal buckling. We weren’t perturbed by this too much, but it was so bizarre! Midway through our stay, the hotel informed us that the entire hotel was to undergo a security assessment on one of the nights from 12am to 4am, where all electricity will be shut off. That meant, total darkness, no running water and no AC. A little odd, but it seemed to go without any mishaps - we had a flashlight in each room, and all staff were said to be on deck, with refreshments and cold hand towels made available at reception (we cannot verify, we did not exit our room at that time). Aside from the drawbacks, all went smoothly. A good hotel but could be made much, much better with simple improvements, maybe better training for staff and an improved computer system? Most of the problems mentioned here, really shouldn’t exist at all; weird check in hiccups, mildew in the bathroom and leaky pipes are big no-no’s. Apart from this, we would stay again, and we’ll bring our bleach.
