Value for money”
Value for money room with kitchen and microwave. It saved us some meal expenses by preparing our own and heating up some grocery food. If traveling during summer and you are used to cold room, this room doesnt have air conditioning (just like most rooms in Zurich). Location is convenient near 2 tram stations which goes straight to the city center and main train station. It is also highly walkable at <2km from city center, we did it one morning and find it walkable distance.

Fine for a quick, cheap stay”
California Hotel is very clean and quiet. However, there is no staff available to help you with quick questions and the emails are not always answered quickly or clearly. I was in the attic room and it was very hot all the time, even with a window open and a fan on most of the night. My bathroom had some issues - the sink didn't empty as the plug was broken and the shower head didn't stay up so had to hold it over myself. If you are looking for a cheap, easy stay then California Hotel is fine. If you are looking for anything more then maybe stay somewhere else.

unfortunately, the room was absolutely nothing like it was advertised. The mattresses were stained with cigarette burns and brown patches. the curtains were old and brown and there were no staff to assist if required.

Dirty rooms, not clean during Covid 19”
You would expect them to clean the rooms properly at times like this of Covid 19. If you find toothpaste stuck on the glass in the Bathroom or hair on the toilet seat you know it was not cleaned properly. Room are very aged and not maintain well at all. Hallway smells like smoke. Some Electricity plug not working in the room and no Swiss national TV stations available. Would not recommend this place , also no staff to resolve these issues.

All I sought for my stay in Zurich was accommodation that featured parking. California House appeared in the search results to have parking. We arrived found a space in front of the apartments, listed as California House parking. We parked in front of a sign stating “beyond this point is not California House Parking”. I previously emailed to ask about parking but received no reply, so assumed it was first come, first serve. Within 2 hours our car was toed, costing 570chf. As there is no staff on sight, we were not made aware and have no idea who reported it. After picking up our car and going out for dinner we returned to find a large 4x4 not even parked within the spaces just parked along side them blocking off at least two (no cars were actually parked within, the spaces). Would not stay here again, even receiving our key code for the building arrives last minute on the day you arrive at the apartment. Wish we had spent the extra cost of 570chf +40chf for additional parking on a nice suite. The place needs a member of staff on site for at least a period of time for check in, as the system doesn’t work!

Absolute waste of money! Not recommended at all!”
Do not expect them to clean your booked room, they will only clean on the day of your check out. No staff on-site, which means you'll have to keep asking the folks around for help with anything, and hope they can help. We entered the room and wanted to warm some sandwiches we brought for lunch, and to our shock there were rotten chicken inside the oven! Nobody bothered to remove that. No lift at the premises so you'll have to carry your own luggage if you got the 2nd floor room, absolutely cumbersome if you're with family. I have to say, it was 'the most dreadful experience in my hotel booking' to date! It was very stressful to see the room no services, or cleaning on day one and from there onwards, it got worse each day, you'll have all the wet wet towels to yourself, no reception, no help at all and eventually went on to become hopeless.

Romantic, rustic, eclectic and fantastic”
The hotel is located bread St Marks Square and it offers age old ambience of a heritage DaVinci class rooms which can turn you back in time as it offers century old facade and ambience..the rooms are clean and the staff is very superb in dealing with their customers, as if you are in your home away from home. We will come back on this hotel, that's for sure

Location: it is around 3 mins walk to the tram station and it takes less than 10 mins to get you to the central areas. Staff: I guess the front desk is only open at office hour, I did the self check-in (pls remember to write down your booking no. otherwise you can't use the self check in). Please also note the entrance is on the other side of the restaurant. I didn't really talk to any of the staff during my stay. Room: it is generally clean, there is house keeping everyday. There is no elevator in the building, you may want to request a room in the lower floor if you have big luggage. Food: a pizza restaurant downstairs. There is a small kitchen and fridge in the room. Overall good esp you want a quite stay, having said that it doesn't mean the surroundings are quite, in fact it is quite noisy because the trams are nearby. It is not that bad compare to the music and noise if you lives in the city.

Worth for money”
Rooms vary greatly, so do not expect exactly what you see on the photos, but even then price is good in comparison to other hotels in town. It's not exactly downtown, but with tram you are literally in 10 minutes in old town shopping and dinner area. Staff was also efficient and friendly.

Stay was good ”
We had two different rooms, both were good. The bed was comfortable and we had a little kitchen with a microwave. With windows closed it was very quiet. Unfortunately it was incredible warm in Zürich during our stay so that we missed A/C. With open windows you have traffic noise. Location was excellent with tram, bus and convenience stores around the corner. Walking to the city center is about 20 Minutes. The room was very clean. An optional "Do not disturb" sign would be good, because we were to a wedding and the roommaid rang us out of bed several times the next day.

It’s about 10mins away from the city center but very convenient to travel by the tram. All was good except that it can get a bit noisy as our room was facing the main road. Could have been better if they had noise insulation. No lift, hence it can be challenging for those who travel with huge luggages. Would stay again

Nice place ”
Nice and cosy little place and very value for money. Loved the microwave however pillows were too soft. The hot water tap was abit cranky and water can get too hot really fast. Toilet door was cranky too but other than that nice little place I love it ! The people there were very nice and checked on us

Poor service, room not as advertised as all sleeping spaces were in the one room and the kitchen was not very nice - nowhere to sit to relax as the TV was in the same room as the beds. really, it was a one room apartment that said it could sleep four adults. OK location for Zurich.

Location is not very convenient ”
If by foot, the hotel is far from everywhere. And we have to check in after 14 pm so we have to wait in the rain. No reception people. But it’s clean and not so expensive.

Low service, you need to adapt”
Good location very close to the center and all bus and tram stops nearby. There is no real reception or service and the cleaning people are not super kind. We requested a room at the highest floor, but we did not imagine that the bathroom was so small and did not have a window or any ventilation system. I recommend it for the price (below the average for Zürich) but only to people who are ok to be left without service and who do not have special needs (e.g. Not for families with little children)

Incredibly Bad Customer Experience”
We stayed at the hotel only for one night. While going out for our flight the next morning the door was stucked. There's no room phone available. We called the hotel number from our cell phones, it was r,nging but no one answered. We called Agoda and Agoda agent called the hotel number , no one answered again. We shouted from the window for help. It was really a nightmare
