A lovely place to stay surrounded by wildlife”

This place is amazing! The apartments are so well equipped, the kitchen even had a kettle and a toaster! The bed was so comfortable, we had the best 3 nights sleep whilst we were there. The frog garden is so lovely and we saw so many frogs. We even saw a couple outside our door several mornings. Leo was amazing too, he couldn’t do enough for us and helped us out so much! He really made it great. We hope we can come back one day and stay longer. We didn’t dislike anything about the property but one thing to note if you don’t have a car you will need to take an Uber or taxi into town. It isn’t a far walk but it’s on a main road with no path. However Uber was so cheap, no more than £2 for a journey so was really good. Plus if you have a car they have little garages next to each cabin which was lovely!

Comfortable Hotel with Fantastic Night Tour”

I loved staying here! The room included a full kitchen and three very comfortable king beds - one in private room with a door. Leo checked us in and gave us a pineapple and bananas. He then took us on our own private night tour. He handed us each a sanitized flashlight and taught about the plants and animals. We really enjoyed finding so many rainforest frogs in the garden! Leo recommended Ranch Pizza La Fortuna for dinner - yummy large pizzas at great prices. It was delicious! Right next door Batidos has awesome fruit smoothies for about 1000 -1500 colones, and we bought things for breakfast across the street. The next morning the hotel set out bananas to attract beautiful birds. Our children really enjoyed walking in the garden looking at the frogs in the daylight. We made pancakes and scrambled eggs for breakfast on the stove. I highly recommend Mundo Adventura for zip lining. For about $70 a person, we did 12 lines over two waterfalls - one was La Fortuna - and rode horses 1 km down. It also included the next day hiking to La Fortuna waterfall for a quick swim. The guides were the best at helping our daughter feel comfortable when she was afraid.

Magic place run by the kind and knowledgable Leo”

Location and the knowledge of the manager Leo The lodge is perfect whether you have a car or not as most of tours pick you up from there if you don’t want to do the walk. Leo, the manager, is the star of the show. His birds feeding session every morning is the perfect start of the day (and he serves everyone coffee!!!)every night he will take you out to see the little animals in the beautiful garden by the river where the property lies. Me and my partner have never met a kinder soul who loves his Country and works to make it a better place! Thank you Leo!

Wonderful”

The location is close to many of the attractions yet far enough away from the busy-ness of the centre. The property is well cared for. It back onto a river with a beautiful garden where we saw lots of frogs, birds, and various types of plants. Leo is so very kind and so is Arianna (at front desk). He is very knowledgeable and patient and loves to explain things about nature to us and our children. We all learned so much from him about many plants, birds and cool frogs. We loved the experience of sitting with our coffee and watching birds eat from the bananas laid out for them. Our children talk about Leo and their experiences at the hotel and in La Fortuna as the highlight of their trip. We would for sure stay here if we travel again to La Fortuna. Thank you for the wonderful memories! Of note - The affiliated restaurant (Nenes) is excellent and many of the ingredients used come directly from Leo’s farm. Truly farm to table.

We stayed too short! There are not enough words for a perfect host like Leo. He made us feel at home, brought fresh pineapple from his farm, did every night of our stay a private frog tour with us and took a lot of time for our kids. In the morning he fed the birds close to our room and showed us the different birds, explained a lot about them. With the garden right at the river a great choice for nature lovers in La Fortuna. We got fitting recommendations for our stay in La Fortuna by Leo(went to the waterfall and La Chollin). Thank you for having us as guests! (needless to say: rooms were spotless clean, big kitchen, comfy beds, great aircon...)

Highly recommended”

In our opinion Cabañas del Rio was the best accommodation we have ever had. You can park right next to your place. The room is big, clean and very well equipped. There is as well a small sitting area outside in front of each cabin. The highlight is the garden and the staff (especially Leo) of Cabañas del Rio. The free night tour and the birdwatching in the early morning are amazing. We have seen many animals (frogs, hummingbirds, toucans and many more). We can definitely recommend this place and would come back any time.

Spacious apartment with three king beds, a sitting area and kitchen. Loved the hospitality from Leo. The frog tour at the gardens was so interesting and fun. Delicious coffee in the morning while watching the birds.
The apartment close to the road has some noise from cars.

Fantastic place to stay for a family in El Fortuna”

Really great set of cottages in a row along a private road. These are very spacious with 1 bedroom, lounge, bathroom and kitchen with two separated off sleeping areas for the other 2 beds. Comfortably fitted our family of 4. The location is great with many things to do in the local area but nicely outside of the main town centre. There is a swimming pool as well (which looks new). The people are very friendly and the nighttime frog tour was a highlight of our time in Costa Rica and was better than some of the paid for night safaris we did.
We liked everything here - wish we could have stayed longer.

One of the best places in Costa Rica”

The place is really lovely! No problem with parking, very well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, air conditioning, but what’s the most important - the kindest staff and Leo, who organises amazing night frog tours and day birds tours. The garden outside is beautiful and you can find many animals there - we’ve seen frogs, a turtle, birds etc. We also used the clothes washing service and everything was great.

The staff was exceptional. Both Leo and his cousin bent over backwards to ensure that our stay was comfortable. The quality of service was impressive. The children especially enjoyed the night walk. They recommended a restaurant called Nene’s. It was good value and delicious. Please try to ceviche. yum! Taxis can be a little bit difficult, but the comfort of having three king size beds and a lovely garden make up for it.

Very well appointed apartment with full and very well equipped kitchen. Really pleasant and comfortable. We stayed 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The property has a nice garden and in the morning many birds visit the bird feeders. We were treated to an amazing tour of the garden at night to see the many species of frogs.

The frog tour was just what we were looking for. There is also a beautiful river in the back of the property. This was a mini apartment, and with a nice supermarket close by, it was easy to fix waffles for breakfast. It is a small oasis on a street in town. Friendly, knowledgeable host. The birds are fed every morning starting at 6:30, and your hosts offers you coffee while watching them. Wish we had planned to stay longer.

Cabaňas are located on the direction towards La Fortuna Waterfall. We loved the garden where you can watch the birds, frog and could access the river! We really enjoy night and day frog walk. The cabaňas are very comfortable for six people. The kitchen is perfectly equiped. You really feel like at home! It is great place to stay with kids. We also use the laundry service. Everything was perfect. We only regret could not stay longer. Anyway coming back to La Fortuna we would chose this place again.

Leo was very helpful and SO incredibly knowledgeable about the birds and animals of the area. every morning he is out helping you see birds and iguanas in his spotting scope. The apartments are huge and very well stocked with everything you could need. you can even pay for laundry service! the property is gorgeous!!! perfect for families!!

Leo is a star and very gracious w his time. He offers a free bird watch (with fresh coffee) at 6:30-8am, and free frog tour at night. The apartment is perfect for a family. We are a family of 5, and had tonnes of space and cooked our own meals in the kitchen. After the bird watching we would walk 800m to a really cool swim hole that had a rope swing. As well, Leo’s family owns a fantastic restaurant in town with incredible ceviche (and they give discounts for those staying at their accommodation).

They have own jungle-like garden by the river where they make tours in the evening showing guests all kinds of forest frogs (they provide flashlights). In the morning they feed birds with fruits and it is literally a theater with tens of unique birds. Everything for free! Best place for nature and animal lovers! Pura Vida! Accomodation was super clean and spacious with a lot of kitchen utensils. WiFi was stable and fast. Personal was so nice and they gave us free fruit in the morning.
