The pictures of the outside of this hotel don't do it justice! Barcelo is beautiful! Top notch! A+staff.. I stayed at Palma Real hotel and casino beginning of my stay in Costa Rica! That place sucks. I wish I would of stayed at the Barcelo the whole time. No thieves in this hotel. Staff was super friendly. Rooms were amazing . Food was delicious. Spend a little more. You won't regret it! Barcelo has it all!

Great place with beautiful view”
I was staying over a night in San Jose. Hotel Barcelo was an inexpensive alternative and I did not expect too much. But wow! What a great hotel! Great staff, accommodations and a beautiful view to the south. I'd stay again and suggest you do too.

The grounds are beautiful and the reception and concierge service was excellent. The restaurant and bar staff service was sub par and the food and drinks were deplorable. The room we were in was very nice and comfortable but the sheets were very uncomfortable. We will not go there again,

Not a 5 star experience ”
We had several issues with check in, from the wrong room type, long waits for service, poor disinterested service from staff, room keys not working, elevator not reading cards and the list goes on. It was an hour and a half before we were in our room. Breakfast staff again were very disinterested, rude and aloof. The breakfast was mediocre 😕 bread was stale, slapped on plates, not to 5 star standards. We contacted management about our experience and the Director's response was short and was focused around future staff training without a solution for us. Pool is nice although the bar and grill area is fairly messy and not kept throughout the day. Broken hammocks were more common than usable ones. Gym was well equipped with a helpful attendant. Bell boy was great, but that was about the only thing that was 5 star in the place.

Not worth your money”
We booked a suite for our (family of three) last night in Costa Rica, before heading back home. Turned out to be the worst stay throughout our vacation: An unresponsive staff team was huddling over one guest, ignoring our arrival to begin with. After a quick check in we moved to our suite on the first floor only to discover that the staff had forgotten to prepare it for our son - they did bring a third bed after we called. Did I mention that nobody bothered to ask whether we could use help with our luggage? The room was ok as rooms go, located on the first floor with all windows facing the highway - and that is the worst part! It was brutally loud! The windows do nothing to keep the noise out and sleeping gets problematic if not impossible. The staff was trying to come up with an alternative solution, but no other rooms were available apparently. This definitely put a fat damper on our stay in Costa Rica. I definitely do NOT recommend staying here. (Also, don‘t try the pizza)

The place was unclean wanted to drink coffee but coffee mugs wore used dirty I have a video where the was a big discussing cockroach on the wall . Need I say more ? I want my money back

11 of 10. THIS PALACE WAS OUTSTANDING. I AM FROM ALBERTA CANADA. GO THERE TO BELIEVETH-HEAVEN ON EARTH-AMEN (THEY SAY THIS WAS A HOTEL, MORE LIKE A PALACE FOR THE PRIVILEGED, EVEN SENIOR CITIZENS).

While when I arrived initially there were some hiccups, they made everything right quickly and were super-accommodating, generally superbly service oriented, amiable and gracious. Plus the entertainment options were superlative, especially the classical piano in the welcome area and weekend bands . Bar-grill waitstaff and main restaurant MaitreD went out of their way to help me with allergies and special needs. Same for cleaning team, at least until the last few days which fell on a weekend. Lack of hot enough water for shower and a clogged vent were a moderately huge nuisance however. So, not perfect by any means.

Lo que voy a dejar en claro ,que un hotel con e reconocimiento interrogantes, no cuente en el desayuno o comidas en gral con variedad en restricciones alimentarias, como sin gluten o sin lactosa. Solicite con anticipación y no pudieron resolver el problema ni en la opción ejecutiva superior del 6to piso , donde estabamos alojadas , ni el desayuno .
