A great place to stay if you’re doing Ijen and a good opportunity to be a guest in the home of a wonderful local Javanes”

Things I like

Strong wifi, plenty of comfortable communal seating, cooking facilities, a fridge to keep water cold, perfect place to do Ijen, we met some lovely fellow travellers, very interesting to live with an authentic Javanese family for a few days. Most importantly, the host (Fendy) and his family. His wife didn’t speak much English but was always smiling and polite to us. His 12 year old son was charming and spoke pretty good English. And Fendy himself is an amazing human being. He speaks fantastic English and he goes out of his way for his guests. He organised our Ijen tour for a very reasonable fee and even drove us there himself, about an hours drive. On the way back, he stopped three times to show us some really interesting things, such as coffee plants, rubber trees and huge but harmless wood spiders. He is incredibly passionate about nature, wildlife and conservation, and had we more time in Banyuwangi we would have loved to go snorkelling with him or do the turtle experience that he offered us. The other reviews speak very highly of them. At the end of our stay, Fendy drove us to the harbour so we could get the ferry back to Bali. Keep being you Fendy! You’re one of the best people we’ve met in Indonesia! All the best to you and your family from Dan and Jenni.

Things I don’t like

Please be aware that you will be a guest in Fendy’s home, sharing the bathroom and communal areas with his family and other guests. This type of accommodation might not be for everyone. The house is 10-15 mins drive away from the city centre and the train station but we found Grab and Gojek taxis very easily and they were very cheap. There are plenty of warungs and shops within walking distance of the home though. The room was quite small for the two of us, though we did have the smaller of the three guest rooms. Quite warm without AC but you are provided a fan. A couple of hooks for hanging clothes and towels, and perhaps slightly less see-through curtains for more privacy would be our only suggestions for improvements.

Great experience with other guests and the host”

Things I like

I usually don’t write any reviews, but for backpackers couples like us, I’ll write this. We stayed for 2 months in Indonesia. Sometime we booked guest houses named “homestay”, but only this place was the true homestay. There are 3 rooms for guests in the same house with the family(young couple and one beautiful boy). We will share one toilet and bathroom with them. -this house is located in the middle of a quiet residential area. It’s so relaxing. -the house is clean and organized. -there are nice sofa and chairs so we could communicate with other guests naturally. -it’s too far to the convenience stores, but there are some nice local grocery stores and laundry within 1 minutes by walk. -we can cook in the clean kitchen. -we can hit the local beach for 30 minutes by foot. The way to there, we can see beautiful rice fields. We enjoyed tasty noodles in front of the beach with locals. -we usually don’t join any day tours, but here, the host is a experienced tour guide. He has professional knowledges about wild animals. So finally we joined the day tours for Snorkeling and climbing to Mt. Ijen. The price of tours are not cheap for us, but it’s worth it. We really enjoyed with other guests and the host.

Things I don’t like

-little bit far from the ferry port. From the ferry port in front of Ketapang station, it will take for 30 minutes by taxi. We paid 60,000 IDR to the driver. -Too hot and humidity without Air Conditioning -there is no water server.

Great experiences with Fendy!”

Things I like

We stayed 5 nights with Fendy and his family. Fendy is making sure that our stay will be unforgettable. We did a snorkeling tour, Baluran national park tour, the Sakumade turtles tour and the Ijen tour with him. Everything is well organized and Fendy's always giving us more informations and stops at some places to show us a lot of things. We learned a lot with him. He is passionate about nature and animals. Our family will always remember seeing the baby turtles with Fendy! The homestay is a real homestay since you live in one of the three rooms that the family is renting. There is one room that have air conditionning for a little supplement. The place is comfortable, clean and it is perfect to do one or many activities that Fendy is offering. Finally, if you booked activities with him, you're sure to have an unforgettable time. He is giving all his energy and all his knowledge for his guests.

Things I like

The room was clean, comfortable and equipped with a ventilator. The bathroom was small, but clean and had a nice hot shower. You could also sit inside on a sofa or outside on some chairs with a table. In total the accommodation was clean, modern and comfortable. The breakfast, which was included was tasty and enough. Fendy and his wife are funny and kind. The special thing about this place is that Fendy can show you many interesting places in and around Banyuwangi. The main attractions are his tours to Ijen and the Turtle Beach. The Tour to Ijen was well organized and only cost 250k per person. The tour was so cheap because there were a total of 6 persons going to Ijen. You can also do the tour to Turtle Beach. It’s quite an adeventure, in which we drove with a Jeep through a national park to the conservation department. You sleep there for one night and you can witness the process of a turtle laying eggs and you can even release baby turtles into the sea. It was a fascinating experience! We payed 3.150.000 Rp. for the trip. Fendy taught us so many different things about biology and culture.

Things I don’t like

Sometimes the room could get a little bit stuffy.

Fantastic Experience”

Things I like

The kindness with which I was treated by Fendi was the stuff of solo female traveler dreams. I was met with a lovely warm welcome, where Fendi helped me figure out a plan for my stay in East Java. I was trying to meet up with some friends to split the cost of my tour to Ijen and Bromo but when that didn’t work out Fendi organised a really good price for myself to go alone! He also picked me up some tasty mie goreng from his restaurant and personally drove me to an atm to get cash out when I was low. He really goes above and beyond for all his guests and I hope he knows how unbelievably grateful we all are that there are people like him in the world 🙌🏼 The room itself was clean, with a comfy bed. It is quite warm in the room as most of the reviews say but it didn’t bother me at all, there’s a fan provided and I slept like a baby!

Things I don’t like

There was nothing I didn’t like about the property. I can wholeheartedly recommend this stay.
